Spain-based Mercados Aries International S.A., has been awarded the consultancy contract worth $ 1.49 million (around Rs. 43.20 million) excluding VAT for the Power Grid Empowerment and Renewable Energy Integration Project implemented under the Asian Development Bank (ADB) funds.
On 17 March 2025 the Cabinet approved the implementation of the procurement process to select a consultancy firm.
Accordingly, expressions of interest (EOIs) were called and 11 companies submitted interest. A request for proposals (RFPs) was issued to the shortlisted firms from among the said companies in accordance with the guidelines of the ADB.
“A total of four companies have submitted their RFPs and after evaluating the proposals received, based on the recommendations submitted by the Consultancy Procurement Committee appointed by the Cabinet, the said consultancy contract was awarded to Mercados Aries International S.A. of Spain,” Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday.
The proposal to this effect was submitted by the Energy Minister Anura Karunathilake.
