Market eyes SEC Chief post

Speculation was rife in capital markets yesterday whether the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Tilak Karunaratne will stay or move on with his term ending today.

Some claimed Karunaratne has conveyed his interest to continue and finish the reforms, including the implementation of the new SEC Act which is pending Parliament approval, whilst others opined he will make an exit, enabling Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to consider a fresh appointment.
