Lankan universities to collaborate with global counterparts to boost intl. rankings

In a major breakthrough, the Government has agreed to let Sri Lankan universities collaborate with their global counterparts in a bid to improve their international rankings. 

The initiative will be orchestrated via MoUs aimed at forging education partnerships between respective universities.  The move is in line with the Government’s policy of boosting local universities’ global grading coefficients.

This week the Cabinet of Ministers approved a proposal in this regard submitted by Education Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris.

The proposed MoUs are as follows:

•  University of Colombo and the University Malaya in Malaysia 
•  University of Peradeniya and the Agricultural Centre of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) on consolidated technology associational activities 
• University of Sri Jayewardenepura and the Manipal Life Science Academy of the Manipal Higher Education Academy of India 
•  University Grants Commission (UGC) of Sri Lanka with the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency of Australia for exchanging information, cooperation and institutional networking when standardisation certification 
•  Agricultural Extension Studies Department of the Agriculture faculty of the University of Peradeniya and the Extension faculty of the University of Alberta, Canada
