State-owned Lakdiva Engineering Ltd., is all set to repair discarded vehicles belonging to Ministries and Departments for re-use. The State venture currently assembles bus bodies for the use of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB).

The Cabinet of Ministers this week approved the formal transfer of a 23-acre land in Ekala on a free-hold basis to be used for the new project of Lakdiva along with the SLTB, following a proposal submitted by Transport Minister Gamini Lokuge.

The ‘Kurunduwatte Estate’ – a land extended in 23 acres one rood and 16.5 perches in Ja-Ela in Ekala has been entrusted to the SLTB in 2017 as per the provisions in section 44 of the Land acquisition Act, but the same was not entrusted to the SLTB by a title transfer order.

Over the past 50 years, the SLTB has utilised this land, and at present, warehouses of Ja-Ela SLTB Depot too are maintained in this, whilst 17 acres of it is being utilised by Lakdiva Engineering to assemble bus bodies and other projects.
