Karu appeals for COVID vaccine support to SL from UN, 3 European countries

National Movement for a Just Society Chairman and former Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya has made a special request from three European countries to provide some of the surplus COVID-19 vaccines available in their countries on behalf of the Sri Lankan

Jayasuriya has made the request on behalf of the country and its people from Switzerland, France and Germany and the Ambassadors who are representing those countries have informed that special attention of their countries have been paid to this request.

Jayasuriya has had a lengthy discussion with the Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations regarding the dangerous situation that has emerged in Sri Lanka and the risky atmosphere faced by the people.

During these discussions, Jayasuriya requested the relevant countries and the United Nations to provide some of the surplus of COVID-19 vaccines currently available in Switzerland, Germany and France for the benefit of the people of Sri Lanka.

Jayasuriya has also requested the United Nations to intervene and provide Sri Lanka with the additional stock of vaccines available in the relevant countries under the COVAX grant scheme.
