Kanchana says revised rooftop solar tariffs likely next week

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera yesterday said plans are underway to introduce the revised tariffs for rooftop solar panels next week.

The Minister made this announcement following a meeting held with the committee members appointed to revise tariffs on rooftop solar yesterday afternoon.

“They have held meetings with its stakeholders and plans to introduce the new tariffs by next week,” Wijesekera opined via Twitter.

Minister Wijesekera also said the committee had considered the economic factors, least-cost generation models, financial capability of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) in reviewing the new tariffs.

In May, the Power and Energy Minister announced that the Government will launch a rapid renewable energy generation plan from June onwards, which will be executed in two quick steps which include; conversion of rooftops to solar panels and extending immediate nod to provisional approval for proposed renewable energy proposals.
