Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar yesterday reaffirmed India’s commitment to Sri Lanka, describing the country as a “true and trusted partner,” following discussions with a delegation from the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP).
In a message shared on X, Dr. Jaishankar said he held a warm interaction with JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva and his delegation, during which the two sides discussed further strengthening the long-standing ties between India and Sri Lanka.
The discussions also focused on growth opportunities and social welfare initiatives, highlighting shared interests in inclusive development and regional cooperation.
Dr. Jaishankar noted that India has consistently stood by Sri Lanka during times of difficulty, including during the island’s recent economic crisis.
He also referred to India’s support in the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah, underlining New Delhi’s readiness to assist Sri Lanka during humanitarian emergencies.
“India will always remain a true and trusted partner for Sri Lanka,” the External Affairs Minister noted.
The meeting comes amid continued engagement between India and Sri Lanka across political, economic and social sectors, as the country navigates recovery efforts and seeks to strengthen regional partnerships.
