Iranian Ambassador Alireza Delkhosh
Iran has expressed readiness to supply oil and other essential goods to Sri Lanka if requested, reaffirming its longstanding ties with the country, Iranian Ambassador Alireza Delkhosh said at a media briefing in Colombo.
The Ambassador said Iran stands prepared to assist at any time, noting that support could include fuel and other critical supplies depending on Sri Lanka’s needs.
He also clarified that the Strait of Hormuz remains accessible to countries maintaining friendly relations with Iran, dismissing concerns over potential restrictions affecting such nations.
Delkhosh said Iran does not wish to see Sri Lanka face economic or supply disruptions, describing the country as one it holds in high regard.
He recalled past cooperation between the two countries, including an instance where Sri Lanka assisted in rescuing crew members of the Iranian naval vessel IRIS Dena following an incident at sea, after a formal request from Iran.
The Ambassador added that the Iranian Government is also prepared to facilitate the return of Sri Lankan nationals currently in Iran, should they wish to come back, by providing the necessary support and arrangements.
