Indian firm gets 2-year barge service supply deal for Lakvijaya Coal Plant

India’s Gujarat-based Shreeji Shipping Ltd. has won the two-year contract to supply automatic barge services to the Lakvijaya Coal Electricity Plant jetty via competitive tender. 

A decision to this effect was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers at its meeting on Monday based on a proposal from the Minister of Ports and Shipping.  The awarding is subject to the recommendation of the Standing Procurement Committee appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers.

The contract period is FY22 and FY23. Located in Norochcholai, Puttalam, the Lakvijaya Power Station is the largest power station in Sri Lanka. In 2020 it produced 5,754 GWh of electricity accounting for 37% of the total generation in the country.
