Indian low-cost carrier IndiGo resumed services on three routes between India and Sri Lanka on 1 October: New Delhi-Colombo, Bengaluru-Colombo and Tiruchirappalli (Trichy)-Jaffna.

The daily New Delhi and Bengaluru flights to Colombo are expected to serve tourists, business travellers and diplomatic passengers.

The direct service between Trichy Airport in Tamil Nadu and Jaffna International Airport resumed after a three-month suspension and will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The first flight carried 88 passengers.

The link offers the Northern Province a faster route to Tamil Nadu and is expected to support cultural, family and commercial ties between the two regions, as well as wider tourism and trade between India and Sri Lanka.
