The Department of Import and Export Control has reported a revenue of Rs. 3.7 billion for 2024, marking a 13% increase compared to the previous year, driven by the issuance of import and export control licences.

According to its 2024 performance report, the Department issued a total of 17,010 licences throughout the year. The highest numbers of licences were granted for the importation of mobile phones, communication devices, and related equipment.

There was also a significant uptick in licences issued for the import and export of chemicals, fertilisers, pesticides, and industrial raw materials, reflecting increased demand across key economic sectors.

Between June and December 2024, approval was granted for the import of 300,000 tons of maize for animal feed production, with 2,222 import licences issued for maize during that period—a notable rise from 2023.
