Iconic banker Rienzie T. Wijetilleke passed away yesterday at the age of 85.
His illustrious career included 24 years at Hatton National Bank, joining as a Deputy General Manager and promoted to as Managing Director and subsequently as Non-Executive Chairman. He began his banking career at Bank of Ceylon in October 1960.
He also served as Chairman of Sunshine Holdings PLC, Non-Executive Vice Chairman of Nawaloka Hospitals PLC, and as Director at DFCC Bank PLC, and Ceylon Biscuits Ltd., and the Colombo Stock Exchange. Separately he also served as Chairman of the first interim committee to administer Sri Lanka Cricket in June 1999.
His remains lie at his residence at 61, Alexandra Place, Colombo 7. Cremation will take place at General Cemetery, Borella (Old Crematorium) on Sunday at 4 p.m.
