The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has announced the reopening of registration for authorised retailers under the Tourist VAT Refund Scheme (TVRS), offering renewed opportunities for eligible businesses to provide refunds.
In line with Section 58A of the Value Added Tax Act, the scheme allows VAT-registered retailers who sell eligible goods from their business premises to apply for TVRS authorisation.
The move is expected to boost tourist spending by offering tax rebates on qualifying purchases.
The reopening of the TVRS is seen as part of the broader efforts to enhance the appeal of Sri Lanka as a tourist shopping destination and improves compliance with tax policies through formal retail channels.
Retailers interested in joining the scheme can access the required application forms through the IRD web portal and are required to submit completed forms to the Larger Taxpayer Refund Unit in Colombo.
For more information or assistance regarding the registration process, businesses are encouraged to contact the IRD Call Centre via 1944 or call Senior Deputy Commissioner 011 213 4192 or 011 213 5435.
