The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has postponed the compulsory production of Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TIN) for eight transactions until 1 April, 2027, five months after the requirement took effect, after applicants struggled to obtain the numbers.
The Commissioner General of Inland Revenue confirmed the decision, extending the deadline from 1 November, 2026.
The department said the requirement would now apply to opening bank accounts, obtaining building plan approvals, registering vehicles, renewing vehicle revenue licences, registering land, registering businesses, transferring company shares and obtaining credit cards from 1 April, 2027.
The postponement follows long queues at IRD offices and outages in the online registration system, which left applicants unable to secure a number in time to complete the listed transactions.
The Government had earlier granted temporary relief confined to bank account openings and vehicle revenue licence renewals.
The IRD is midway through a taxpayer register cleanup backed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which found in a diagnostic published on 30 October, 2026 that the department’s core platform for registration, filing and payment faces the expiry of its maintenance contract on 31 January, 2027.
