  • Grants 8-day grace period for income tax filings as cyclone disrupts nationwide access

The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) yesterday extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for the 2024/25 assessment year, granting taxpayers an additional eight days in light of countrywide disruptions caused by Cyclonic Storm Ditwah.

Under the Inland Revenue Act No. 24 of 2017, returns must be filed no later than eight months after the end of the assessment year, placing the statutory deadline on 30 November.

The IRD said adverse weather has hindered access to services and prevented some taxpayers from meeting the cut-off.

The Department confirmed it will not initiate late-filing action provided returns are submitted on or before 8 December. The grace period applies across all taxpayer categories.

The IRD urged those affected to make use of the extension to complete their submissions and avoid compliance issues once normal operations resume.
