The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has reaffirmed its continued support for Sri Lanka’s economic recovery, underscoring international confidence in the country’s post-crisis stabilisation and reform efforts.

The assurance was conveyed by IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva during a meeting with Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2026 in Davos.

Georgieva’s remarks highlighted international recognition of Sri Lanka’s progress in economic recovery, particularly in the aftermath of the destruction caused by Cyclone Ditwah.

In a post on ‘X,’ the IMF Managing Director said: “Sri Lanka and its people have shown remarkable resilience in the face of the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah. I reiterated the IMF’s commitment to supporting the country’s economic recovery.”

Finance Deputy Minister Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando also participated in the discussion.

During the visit, Dr. Amarasuriya separately met with Asian Development Bank (ADB) President and Chairperson of the Board of Directors Masato Kanda, where discussions centred on Sri Lanka’s economic conditions and the progress of its reform programme.

The Prime Minister and the Sri Lankan delegation departed for Switzerland on Monday (19) to attend the 56th Annual Meeting of the WEF, which is being held under the theme “A Spirit of Dialogue” and brings together more than 3,000 global leaders, including Heads of State, government leaders, chief executive officers, policymakers, and technology leaders.

During the forum, the Prime Minister was also scheduled to hold a series of high-level bilateral meetings with international leaders, heads of global institutions, and other senior representatives.
