The International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka (ICCSL) has requested the Lanka IOC PLC to allocate fuel supply on a priority basis to prime movers of export and import containers.

ICCSL Chairman Shanil Fernando has written to LIOC Managing Director Manoj Gupta requesting for priority queues in fuel stations in Colombo and Gampaha areas for container prime mover transporters.

He pointed out that the delay to act on the request will see the entire prime mover container transportation coming to a standstill and the continuity of the supply chain of the export industry will be interrupted. It was stressed that export is the only sector that generates a steady income of foreign exchange and it is also dependent on imported inputs.

Fernando warned that a breakdown in movement of export-import containers will lead to a loss of revenue and shipping lines bypassing Colombo as well.
