ICC announces newly-elected Chairman for International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka

Shanil Anthony Fernando was elected as the Chairman of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC Sri Lanka) on 24 November at the ICC SL AGM held at the BMICH.

Shanil Fernando was proposed and endorsed by the Immediate Past Chairman Dinesh Weerakkody and seconded by Past Chairman Keerthi Gunawardane.

Fernando has been a member of the ICC for over two decades and had been in the Board of ICCSL in various positions as Senior Deputy Chairman, and the Secretary. He chaired the Sustainable Finance UNESCAP-ICC SL Joint Conferences, and The Foreign Affairs committee. He has been a panellist on many international conferences and workshops overseas, and was a Task Force Member, of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR.

Fernando is the Chairman of Asian Logistics Park Ltd., World Express (CMB) Ltd. Air & Sea Logistics Ltd. and AFA Corporate Services Ltd. 

Previously he has also been an Independent nominated Director of the Colombo Stock Exchange, the Central Depositary System Ltd., Urban Development Authority, and Paliygoda Warehousing Co. Ltd. 

Shanil Anthony Fernando is a Lawyer, Solicitor. He obtained First Class with a Prize in Commercial Law and is a Partner of Anton Fernando Associates, Legal Advisors and Company Secretaries to local and foreign Companies. He is a Member of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators. He followed training courses in International Contracts and Arbitration at ICLP and ICC in Paris. Has also appeared in ICC facilitated Arbitrations. 

Shanil Fernando obtained an MBA from the Post Graduate Institute if Management (PIM) of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, His thesis been the Use of Electronic Data Interchange for Trade and Transport Facilitation, PIM awarded the PIM Achiever’s Award in 2008.

Anthony has followed Postgraduate courses at the Queen Mary College, University of London, at The University of Texas, USA, and the University of Prince Edward Island Canada and in Japan. 

He was a recipient of the Mahapola Merit Scholarship and Commonwealth Chevening Scholarship.

Fernando was trained by Commonwealth Association for Corporate Governance London. And by UNESCAP as a Trainer’s, Trainer on International Trade and Multimodal Transport Facilitation to be a resource person. He also served as a visiting resource person in the area of Corporate Compliance Governance, Negotiations and ADR Conflict Resolution, Arbitration, and Supply Chain Management. 

Shanil Anthony Fernando was the past President of the Postgraduate Institute of Management Professional Association Alumni of the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM). of the University of Sri Jayawardenepura.
