Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa has issued a legal notice demanding Rs. 1 billion in compensation from YouTube content creator Dharmasri Kariyawasam, accusing him of disseminating false and misleading material that allegedly linked the Minister to the importation of a disputed pharmaceutical product and fuelled public unrest.

The notice, sent through the Minister’s legal counsel, states that investigations are currently in progress into ten medicines, including Ondansetron Injection, produced by India-based Maan Pharmaceutical Ltd.

Ondansetron Injection was among ten injectable drugs recently suspended by the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) following reports of adverse reactions.

The legal notice follows the broadcast of a widely viewed program on Kariyawasam’s YouTube channel titled “The hidden story of the Indian drug that claimed lives, Mayor Balthasar’s relative, and Minister Nalinda’s cover-up”, which, according to the Minister, contains unfounded allegations implicating him in the matter.
