Hayleys and LOLC take the honours in LMD 100 rankings

The publisher of leading business magazine LMD, Media Services, announced its top 10 line-up in the forthcoming LMD 100 special edition.

Hayleys retains the No. 1 spot in the 27th edition of Sri Lanka’s pioneering listed company rankings for financial year 2019/20. With a consolidated revenue of Rs. 210 billion, the conglomerate secured top spot for the fourth consecutive year despite a 4% contraction in turnover compared to the prior year.

This marks the seventh occasion that Hayleys has occupied the prime position in Sri Lanka’s version of the Fortune 500.

Commercial Bank (ComBank) moves up to second place on the podium with a top line of slightly over Rs. 150 billion while Hatton National Bank (HNB) also climbs one spot up the ladder to third place with an increase in revenue of 5%.The other listed entities in the top five are John Keells Holdings and LOLC Holdings, which are placed fourth and fifth respectively. 

Meanwhile, LOLC Holdings takes the top spot in the profitability rankings with a profit after tax of nearly Rs. 19.2 billion, followed by ComBank (Rs. 17.4 billion) and Ceylon Tobacco Company (Rs. 17.2 billion). HNB and Sampath Bank make up the top five among the most profitable entities in 2019/2020.

A spokesperson for Media Services says the 100-strong rankings “confirm that Sri Lanka’s largest conglomerates and leading banks remain at the forefront of listed entities in this nation”.

In addition to the listed company rankings, the annual LMD 100 special edition will carry commentaries on the economy and performance of the top 10 for financial year 2019/20. It will also feature a series of interviews with a collection of the LMD 100’s high achievers.

Media Services says the LMD 100 special edition will be released in February.
