Harin directs relocation of State Ministry of Sports to save over Rs. 4 m monthly

New Sports Minister Harin Fernando has directed the relocation of the State Sports Ministry from the World Trade Centre (WTC) in Colombo 1 to the Sports Ministry building in Colombo 7.

A statement issued by the Ministry noted that the move will save Rs. 4.2 million to the Government coffers in maintaining the State Minister’s office at the WTC. 

Fernando mentioned the practicality of utilising existing infrastructure, noting that the State Minister can efficiently fulfil duties from the Sports Ministry office.

 In his dual role as the Tourism Minister, he has informed the Ministry Secretary that his office would be based at the Tourism Ministry, allowing the State Sports Minister to operate from the Sports Ministry premises.

The statement added that the decision is not only expected to enhance operational efficiency but also aligns with a cost-saving strategy.

In addition, Fernando has instructed the Ministry Secretary to allocate around Rs. 50 million annually saved through this relocation to the Sports Development Fund.
