The Finance Ministry yesterday announced it has further increased the tax on imported potatoes by Rs. 5 or 10% to Rs. 55 a kilogram.
The move to last for fourth months is ensure a higher price for the harvest of the local potato farmers.
According to the Extraordinary Gazette issued by the Finance Ministry, the tax is charged as a special commodity levy which will be effective from 15 August for four months.
The order is made under Section 2 of the Special Commodity Levy Act No.48 of 2007.
