The Cabinet of Ministers this week approved recommencing the construction of the remaining 74 bridges by the State Development and Construction Corporation.
The move aims to complete the construction of the bridges expeditiously, whilst minimising the difficulties encountered by the public.
Originally, the approval was granted at the Cabinet meeting held on 8 February 2021, to award 326 bridge construction contracts to the State Development and Construction Corporation for the construction of bridges across countrywide under the Rural Bridges Program.
It has been decided that in the year 2022, the construction of 184 bridges, for which construction has not been initiated, will be stopped, and the construction of 45 bridges from the 142 remaining bridges have already been completed.
The construction of a further 23 bridges has been assigned to the Road Development Authority (RDA).
The proposal to this effect was submitted by the Transport, Highways and Urban Development Minister.
