Govt. to confirm 9,800 State sector employees

Taking into account that around 9,800 employees are currently serving across the public service, provincial public service, public corporations, statutory boards, and affiliated institutions on temporary, casual (daily paid), substitute, contract, or relief terms, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has proposed regularising their employment through Budget Proposal No. 33.11 for 2026.

Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved the joint resolution submitted by the President in his capacity as Finance, Planning and Economic Development Minister, as well as Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Governments Dr. A.H.M.H Abayarathna.

The approval paves the way for the issuance of an official circular outlining the provisions and procedures for granting permanent appointments to the affected employees, marking a significant step toward employment stability within the State sector.
