Govt. to buy 75 motor graders for Rs. 1.4 b from United Tractors

The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved awarding a contract for the procurement of 75 brand-new motor graders at a cost of Rs. 1,424.25 million, to United Tractors and Equipment Ltd.

Addressing the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday, Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said the purchase is intended to strengthen the Government’s infrastructure development programs.

The approval follows an initial cabinet decision made on 21 October 2025, to proceed with the acquisition of heavy machinery to expedite state-led construction projects.

He said the procurement process followed a bidding procedure, which saw five bidders competing for the contract.

“The total cost is Rs. 1,424.25 million is exclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT,” he added.
