The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved a proposal to submit a Bill to Parliament to amend the Social Security Contribution Levy (SSCL) Act, No. 25 of 2022.
The draft legislation has been prepared by the Legal Draftsman in line with proposals outlined in the 2026 Budget.
“The clearance of the Attorney General has been received for the said Bill,” Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing on Tuesday, without specifying whether the levy would be increased or decreased.
When asked about potential revisions to the levy, he explained that adjustments could go either way, and that full details will be made available in the Government Gazette shortly.
Once published, the Bill will be formally submitted to Parliament for debate and approval, marking the next step in updating the Social Security Levy framework under the Budgetary plan for 2026.
