Govt. opens local and foreign accounts for disaster relief contributions

The Government has announced that Sri Lankans living overseas as well as foreign nationals can now contribute to national relief efforts supporting communities affected by the ongoing disaster situation across the country.

The initiative was formally communicated during a briefing chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath, with the participation of foreign envoys based in Colombo and Sri Lankan ambassadors serving abroad. Officials said the move aims to streamline international and local donations by establishing dedicated bank accounts to accept contributions in both Sri Lankan rupees and foreign currencies, including US Dollars.

Details of the designated accounts have been shared with Sri Lankan diplomatic missions abroad and foreign missions operating in Sri Lanka to facilitate swift assistance from the global Sri Lankan community and international well-wishers.
