The Government last night revised fuel prices across the board amidst crude oil surging above $ 100 a barrel yesterday on concerns about potential shortages due to prolonged disruption to Middle East energy supplies.

Lanka IOC also increased its fuel prices in line with the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CEYPETCO) prices.

Accordingly, the CEYPETCO announced that the price of a litre of Petrol Octane 92 has been increased by Rs. 24 to Rs. 317, while Petrol Octane 95 has been raised by Rs. 25 to Rs. 365.

The price of Auto Diesel has been increased by Rs. 22 to Rs. 303, while Super Diesel has been increased by Rs. 24 to Rs. 353.

Meanwhile, the price of kerosene has been increased by Rs. 13 to Rs. 195 per litre.

The move comes despite Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe saying Sri Lanka is better positioned to absorb global oil price shocks than it was during the crisis years, highlighting the country’s strengthened external buffers and improved inflation environment.

Last week, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake assured Parliament that Sri Lanka has sufficient fuel stocks at present despite the escalating conflict in the Middle East, and outlined a schedule of incoming shipments to ensure uninterrupted supply.
