The Government yesterday announced that the Southern and Ella tourist hotspots will be exempted from the one hour and 20 minutes night-time power outages from today. 

Taking to Twitter, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said that the countrywide power cuts of two hours and 20 minutes during the night will be continued till 15 December.

“With the scheduled addition of Unit 3 of Coal Plant to the Grid on 15 December, all tourism zones identified by the Ministry of Tourism will be exempted from night power cuts and countrywide night power cut will be reduced to one hour,” he noted. 

Minister Wijesekera also added that there will be no power cuts during Christmas and New Year.
