The Government yesterday assured that the country has sufficient stocks of fuel, whilst calling on the public not to fall victim to fake news being circulated.

Speaking at the post-Cabinet meeting media briefing, Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said that there are adequate fuel reserves to meet national demand for two and a half months.

“We urge the public not to be misled by reports on social media and opt for panic buying,” he added.

Separately, the Energy Ministry also issued a statement calling the public not to fall prey to ‘fake news’ about purported fuel shortage amidst the tensions in the Middle East.

It added that several misleading reports are being circulated particularly via social media.

The Ministry assured the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) holds sufficient fuel stocks for the next two months and necessary arrangements have been made to procure fuel stocks ordered in advance without any issues.

Therefore, the Ministry requested the public not to be deceived by such reports.
