President Anura Kumara Dissanayake yesterday said the Government will provide Rs. 5 million for each home destroyed by Ditwa Cyclone-related flooding or landslides.
He said the Government would provide State land to build new homes away from disaster-prone areas, with an additional Rs. 5 million provided if such land is not available.
The Deputy Minister of Defence also told Parliament yesterday that households with disaster-related structural damages will receive compensation of up to Rs. 2.5 million, with payments determined according to official damage assessments.
He noted that the Rs. 25,000 already provided is only an initial grant meant for sanitation and basic cleaning, not the final compensation amount.
