The Government is planning to incentivise investors in the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) including tax relief for venture capital companies.
This was revealed by Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Deputy Minister Chathuranga Abeysinghe yesterday at the SME Forum.
Speaking at the National SME Forum Scale Up 2.0 organised by The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce’s Centre for SMEs at the Taj Samudra, Colombo, Abeysinghe said the new initiatives likely to be announced at the upcoming 2027 Budget, will be aimed at boosting the startups as well as SMEs in the country.
“Sri Lanka needs to enable angel investments and venture capitalists. It has been proposed to see the possibility of giving a tax allowance for people who will invest in SMEs,” he said.
It was revealed that the 2027 Budget will address resolution of double taxation involved when it comes to investments by venture capitalists in startups.
