Gammanpila submits bill to amend Central Bank Act

PHU leader and MP Udaya Gammanpila yesterday submitted a bill to amend the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Act No. 16 of 2023 to Acting Secretary General of Parliament Hansa Abeyratne. The move comes after the Central Bank salaries were sharply increased without adequate oversight.

The bill aims to nullify the arbitrary salary increase of the CBSL and mandate the agreement of the Minister of Finance for any salary hikes for CBSL employees.

Upon receiving the bill, the Acting Secretary General spoke of its national significance and added that it would be promptly forwarded to seek the opinion of the Attorney General.
