Ex-SEC fame Malik Cader joins PMF Finance Board

Malik Cader

Malik Cader has been appointed as Non-Executive Independent Director of PMF Finance PLC.

Cader was enrolled as an Attorney-at-Law in Sri Lanka in 1989 and is also a qualified Solicitor in England and Wales. He is a Commissioner for Oaths and a registered Company Secretary.

After practicing commercial law before the courts of Sri Lanka, Cader joined the senior management of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) in 1997, where he rose to the position of Director General SEC. 

Prior to that he served as the Deputy Director General and Director Legal at the SEC.

During his tenure, he gained extensive exposure to international securities regulation, serving as the liaison with the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO). 

His role included exposure to several leading capital market institutions, which included the New York Stock Exchange, US SEC, Tokyo Stock Exchange, Osaka Stock Exchange, Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange, Securities Commission Malaysia, Singapore Stock Exchange, Monetary Authority of Singapore, Singapore Futures Exchange, Thai SEC, Stock Exchange of Thailand, Australian Stock Exchange, Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), Australian Futures Exchange, Karachi Stock Exchange, Pakistan SEC, Korean Stock Exchange, and the Financial Services Authority (FSA).

Cader also served as a Director of the Insurance Board of Sri Lanka. In 2012, he was appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers as Senior Advisor to the Ministry of Finance. He was also a Member of the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board (SLAASMB).

He is a Past President of the Association of Corporate Lawyers and a Life Member of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka.

In the realm of civic leadership, Cader served as National President of the Junior Chamber International (Jaycees) Sri Lanka, was elected World Vice President of Junior Chamber International (JCI), and later chaired the JCI Senate Sri Lanka.

Before his legal career, he held senior managerial and marketing positions in leading organisations, specialising in consumer electronics, decorative paints, and industrial products.

Currently, he heads Corporate Legal Consultants, a boutique-style legal consultancy specialising in securities law, insurance law, and investment advisory. His areas of expertise include mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity structuring, international contract drafting, and capital markets litigation.
