Easter attacks one month on: private sector peace pledge today

A group of private sector lobbies led by Chambers of Commerce and Industry will be taking a public pledge today, to restore Sri Lanka as a peaceful nation, by taking the lead in building a united country.

This pledge is the private sector’s initiative towards peace-building, and will be made at a ceremony today at the Atrium of the Cinnamon Grand Hotel at 10:00 a.m. It marks one month since the 21 April Easter Sunday terror attacks on three churches and an equal number of five star hotels in the city by extremists, killing nearly 260 people, including 45 tourists, and injuring over 500.

They will pledge to work towards building a united Sri Lanka in which our people can live and work together in unity, in peace, and in harmony, irrespective of differences in religion and ethnicity, and acknowledge the diversity within us, and treat each other with respect at work and in the community.

Together, the private sector will also forge a true Sri Lankan identity, and thereby restore Sri Lanka as a peaceful nation.
