A host of socially responsible private sector organisations spearheaded by EZY Intellect, Nations Trust Bank and Citi among others have come forward to facilitate university students to learn about the latest cyber security challenges and solutions.
The rallying of select private sector firms committed to enhance the knowledge economy and skills of the youth was done on the request of the Daily FT to sponsor deserving students who are studying computer science, IT, science engineering and related streams at state universities to attend Wednesday’s 5th annual Cyber Security Summit organised by the Daily FT and CICRA Holdings. The summit, with a panel of global experts, will highlight the latest trends in cyber-attacks and how companies, individuals and countries can and should manage the threat. Focus areas include growing cyber security threats to the banking and finance sectors, industries, mobile and social media.
The companies supporting the university student participation are EZY Intellect, Nations Trust Bank Plc, Citi, 99X Technologies, Indocean Developers Ltd/Altair, Seylan Bank Plc, Siam City Cement (Lanka) Ltd., Lanka Orix Leasing Company Plc, Expolanka Holdings Plc, IFS Sri Lanka, Lanka Ashok Leyland, Asia Securities Ltd., DIMO, Akbar Brothers, Overseas Realty (Ceylon) Plc, Capital Alliance Plc, Ceylinco General Insurance and Ceylinco Life.
Students from the Faculty of Science/Department of Computer Science and Faculty of Engineering University of Jaffna; Faculty of Applied Sciences/Department of Computing and Information Systems Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka; Faculty of Science and Technology/Department of Computer Science and Technology, Uwa Wellasssa University; Faculty of Engineering/Department of Computer Science Engineering and Faculty of IT from the University of Moratuwa; Faculty of Technology/Department of Information and Communication Studies from University of Sri Jayewardenepura; Faculty of Engineering/Department of Computer Engineering of University of Peradeniya; School of Computing, University of Colombo, Faculty of Engineering/Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Faculty of Natural Sciences/Department of Computer Science of the Open University of Sri Lanka will attend the summit.
These students were drawn from nominations from the respective universities. For the first time two ex-hackers from the UK - Darren Martin and Jake Davis - who were founder members of notorious hacker groups Lulzsec and Anonymous in their teens, will speak at the summit, making them star attractions. The duo will have dedicated back-to-back sessions at the summit whose participants will have a unique experience to ‘Hangout with Hackers’ in the evening as well.
Other global and regional experts who will share key insights include Global Security Sales Organisation Managing Director Stephen Dane, who will speak on Cyber Security for Nation and Critical Infrastructure; Bayshore Networks, USA Senior Director ICS Vincent Turmel on Industrial and Enterprise Security, Central Bank Governor Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy, Visa Consolidated Support Services Chief Risk Officer Shivakumar Sriraman along with Cisco Director, Security Business, Cisco India and SAARC Vishak Raman on banking and financial services; US’ ZeroFox Executive Vice President, Global Services Gabe Goldrish on social media security and Airtel Sri Lanka CEO Jinesh Hedge on mobile security. Several other experts will join in as panelists as well.
Given the line-up of top global and regional experts, the summit will be the largest cyber security platform to find out the latest threats, trends and solutions. Registrations for the summit are on a first come first served basis and end today. For registrations visit www.cybersecuritysummit.lk.
