EU encourages SL President to pay special attention to GSP+, IMF and HRC processes

The delegation of European Union to Sri Lanka, who met with President Ranil Wickremesinghe this week said they had a constructive meeting with the President on the current situation of the country.

Assuring that EU is a partner in challenging times, the Ambassadors of the European Union countries to Sri Lanka emphasised that protection of human and civil rights and freedom to dissent is of utmost importance.

“The EU is a partner in challenging times. For us, protection of civil and human rights, above all, freedom of expression and right to dissent, is of utmost importance. We agree bringing Sri Lanka back on track requires joint and inclusive action,” the EU in Sri Lanka said on Twitter.

On Foreign affairs, the European Union delegation in Sri Lanka encouraged the President to devote special attention to ongoing key processes of GSP+, IMF and Human Rights Council.

The EU said it hopes that concrete steps would be taken by the Sri Lankan Government to make those processes a success.
