EDB fast-tracks fuel allocation to safeguard export sector

Export Development Board (EDB) Chairman Mangala Wijesinghe yesterday underscored a priority program aimed at ensuring exporters receive essential fuel supplies without delay amid ongoing energy constraints.

He said the Industry and Entrepreneurship Ministry is currently collecting critical operational data from exporters to facilitate targeted allocations.

“If you haven’t submitted your information yet, do so immediately,” Wijesinghe urged at a media briefing, highlighting the EDB’s role in coordinating and expediting the process to prevent disruptions to production and shipments.

Positioning the export sector as a national priority, the Government-backed initiative is designed to support over 4,500 exporters across apparel, tea, spices and other key industries that generate vital foreign exchange earnings.

The intervention comes at a pivotal moment as global conflicts continue to exert upward pressure on fuel prices and strain supply chains.

With exporters forming the backbone of the economy, authorities have framed fuel delivery to the sector as a frontline national task to ensure seamless operations and sustained competitiveness in international markets.

“We expect to provide all required facilities so exports can continue without any barriers,” Wijesinghe affirmed.
