Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa yesterday clarified that the tender process for the issuance of personalised e-passports to the Department of Immigration and Emigration (DIE) remains under evaluation, dismissing speculation that a final decision has already been made.
Addressing the weekly post-Cabinet media briefing, Dr. Jayatissa said the procurement process is still ongoing and that the final selection will be made strictly in accordance with Government procurement guidelines.
“The decision will be made by the Procurement Committee as per the guidelines. It has still not finalised anything as far as I know,” he said.
His comments come amid growing attention surrounding the international tender process after reports emerged that eight foreign companies had submitted bids following the Government’s tender notice issued on 27 April 2025.
Dr. Jayatissa also said that any eligible company is free to campaign or present its case during the tender process, stressing that the final determination rests solely with the relevant procurement authorities.
The clarification follows media reports raising concerns over the handling of the e-passport personalisation tender, including allegations by some unsuccessful bidders over transparency in the evaluation process.
