Ditwa death toll reaches 465 as1.56 million affected: DMC

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC), in its situation report issued at 6 p.m. yesterday, states that 1,558,919 people from 437,507 families have been affected across 25 districts.

The total number of confirmed deaths stands at 465, while 366 people remain missing. Fully damaged houses number 783, and 31,417 have been partially damaged. The DMC reports 1,433 active safety centres sheltering 61,875 families, totalling 232,752 people.

Colombo records the highest number of affected persons at 295,291, followed by Puttalam with 271,206 and Badulla with 45,187. Kandy reports the highest number of deaths at 118, while Nuwara Eliya records 89 and Badulla 83. Kandy also reports the highest number of missing persons at 171, followed by Kegalle with 48 and Puttalam with 8.
