Dilith the politician quits from several listed company boards

Reinforcing his foray into politics and ensuring good governance, Dilith Jayaweera has stepped down from the Boards of several public listed companies.

Citrus Leisure PLC, Colombo Land and Development Company PLC, Waskaduwa Beach Resort PLC and Hikkaduwa Beach Resort PLC separately announced Dilith’s resignation as Non-Executive Director from the respective Boards yesterday.

Recently, it was announced that Dilith has been appointed as the leader of the Mawbima Janatha Party signalling his formal entry into active politics.

Dilith has assumed leadership of the party, taking over from veteran politician Hemakumara Nanayakkara, who will now serve in an advisory capacity with the title of ‘Senior Leader’.

Dilith holds an LLB from the University of Colombo and an MBA from the University of Wales, and is an Attorney at Law.

He first rose to prominence in the advertising industry by co-founding Triad Ltd., in 1993. He is also the Chairman of Powerhouse Ltd., the holding company of Derana. Dilith is the Group Chairman of privately held George Steuart & Co., Sri Lanka’s oldest mercantile establishment in which he took a controlling interest in 2011.
