Deputy Minister Harshana resigns as MP to take up Treasury Secretary post

Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma yesterday resigned as a National List MP to take up the post of Treasury Secretary. 

Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma has sent his resignation letter to Secretary General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera who in turn informed Election Commission that a vacancy has arisen in Parliament due to the resignation.

Incumbent Secretary to the Treasury Mahinda Siriwardana is due to retire next week.



Dr. Suriyapperuma is qualified as a Fellow of CIMA UK, gained an MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management and PhD in business networking and performance from the Management and Science University. Having worked in several roles related to finance and administration in the private sector, he served as the Director Corporate Affairs of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka from 2013 to 2021, before moving back to the private sector until 2023. He was member of the NPP economic council from 2022.
