The Defence Ministry yesterday announced the implementation of a comprehensive and multi-layered security framework to ensure the safe and successful conduct of the T20 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka.
Recognising the international significance of the tournament and the large influx of players, officials, media personnel, and spectators from around the world, the Ministry has coordinated an integrated security plan in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Police, the Tri-Forces, intelligence agencies, and other key stakeholders.
Security arrangements will be in place at all match venues, team hotels, training facilities, airports, and designated fan zones. A round the clock perimeter security system, access control procedures, vehicle screening points, and crowd management measures will be enforced to maintain a secure environment throughout the tournament period.
Special security units have been deployed to provide close protection to participating teams and match officials, in addition to VIPs and diplomats. Advanced surveillance systems, including CCTV monitoring and real-time intelligence coordination, will further strengthen situational awareness and rapid response capabilities.
The Ministry has also enhanced airspace surveillance. Emergency response teams, including medical units, will remain on standby to address emergencies.
“The Ministry of Defence assures the public and the international community that every necessary measure has been taken to uphold safety, security, and public order while preserving the celebratory spirit of the tournament,” a statement said.
The Ministry also requested the general public, especially the spectators, to cooperate with security personnel, adhere to venue guidelines, maintain order, report any suspicious activities to the authorities and assist law enforcement agencies to ensure public safety and security.
The Ministry said it remains committed to delivering a secure and memorable T20 Cricket World Cup, reflecting Sri Lanka’s capability to host world-class international sporting events with professionalism and excellence.
