Sri Lanka Customs has seized narcotics worth an estimated Rs. 67.5 million from 11 foreign postal parcels at the Central Mail Exchange in Colombo.

The parcels, sent from eight countries, contained more than 3.1 kilograms of Kush cannabis, 2,395 grams of MDMA (Ecstasy) pills, and 33 grams of Mandy, a crystal or powder form of MDMA.

Customs said officers of its Narcotics Control Unit (NCU) identified the parcels over the past few months during routine inspections of incoming international mail. The parcels were detained pending collection, and when the recipients failed to collect them within the stipulated period, NCU officers examined them yesterday together with the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB).

The cannabis, valued at over Rs. 30.5 million, came from Thailand, the US, and the UK. The MDMA pills were sent from Belgium, France, Canada, and Germany, and the Mandy from the Netherlands.

The largest single detection was a parcel from Belgium containing 2,202 grams of MDMA pills valued at an estimated Rs. 33 million.

The narcotics have been handed over to the PNB for further investigation and legal proceedings.
