Sri Lanka Customs outperformed its revenue targets in the first half of 2026, collecting Rs. 1.37 trillion, up 29.5% from the same period last year, driven by stronger enforcement, improved valuation practices and a recovery in import volumes.

Official data showed Customs collected Rs. 225.2 billion in June against a target of Rs. 184.9 billion, exceeding the monthly target by 22%. The strong performance lifted cumulative revenue for the January-June period to Rs. 1,373.8 billion, equivalent to 62.2% of the Department’s full-year revenue target of Rs. 2,207 billion.

Although the 2026 revenue target is 13.5% lower than last year’s record collection of Rs. 2,551 billion, reflecting expectations of a sharp decline in vehicle imports, Customs has continued to outperform expectations.

In 2025, the Department exceeded its revised revenue target of Rs. 2,241 billion and recorded a 64.2% increase over the previous year’s revenue, underscoring the sustained improvement in revenue collection.
