Customs achieves 93% of annual Rs. 2.21 t target

Sri Lanka Customs has surpassed its September revenue target more than a week before the month’s end, collecting Rs. 199.3 billion as of 22 September against a monthly target of Rs. 195.6 billion.

The collection exceeds the September target by about Rs. 3.8 billion, or 1.9%.

Year-to-date (YTD) revenue stood at Rs. 2.06 trillion as of 22 September, or 93% of the 2026 annual target of Rs. 2.21 trillion. Customs therefore needs to collect about Rs. 149 billion more over the remaining three months and a week to meet its full-year goal.

Customs also exceeded its annual target in 2025, recording a final revenue of Rs. 2.56 trillion. This year’s target is about 14% below that outturn.

Fitch Ratings, in upgrading Sri Lanka’s sovereign rating this week, said rising Government revenue reflected tax reforms and a temporary surge in import duties driven by pent-up demand for imported vehicles.
