Consumer Affairs Authority removes maximum retail price of sugar

The Consumer Affairs Authority has removed the Maximum Retail Price imposed on sugar in an earlier Gazette notification.

Consumer Affairs Authority Chairman Maj. Gen. Shantha Dissanayake (Rtd.), issuing an extraordinary gazette notification on Monday, rescinded the earlier Gazette notification in October 2018 which imposed the MRP on sugar.

The maximum retail price of 1kg of loose white sugar was Rs. 100 whilst 1 kg of packeted white sugar was Rs. 105. The Importer’s Maximum Wholesale Price of 1 kg of sugar was Rs. 92.
