Arriving after a stellar and successful tour of seven Indian cities, Peters looked upbeat and cheerful, nodding along to the rhythm of drumbeats as he was garlanded with fresh flowers, as traditional drummers and dancers escorted him to the welcoming ceremony, where he met with event sponsors and media.

“You are gonna leave either really happy or really offended. Let’s just hope it’s happy and offended,” quipped Peters in his characteristic witty manner, when asked what the Sri Lankan audience can expect at the show.

Tonight’s performance is part of Russell’s latest ‘Relax’ World Tour, with Colombo being the grand finale of the tour. It marks the third visit by the global comedy icon to the island, who previously performed in 2013 and 2015 to sell-out crowds.

“I have been to Colombo a few times now, so I have been missing you guys. I am so glad to be back here,” Peters said of his love for the island nation.

Peters’ 2026 world tour is set against the backdrop of international conflict and fuel and energy crises, impacting people in all parts of the world. Do people still have the energy in them to laugh? The global comedy icon believes they do, and refers to his aptly titled tour as reinforcement.

“People need to laugh more than ever right now. If you don’t laugh, you’re gonna cry. There’s no comfort in crying. Come to my show, enjoy an hour of swearing and relax as the title promises,” he added.

Peters’ arrival in Sri Lanka is straight after his Indian tour, covering New Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Shillong, and Kolkata.

Sri Lankan events organiser Australian Migration Consultants (AMC) Chairman Dr. Manjula Kulatunga highlighted the importance of events of this scale, making Colombo a global entertainment hub.

“The country needs a good laugh; we are all deserving. I think there is no better person to present it and take the Sri Lankan message to the world. Thank you very much, Russell, for opening the doors for us,” Kulatunga said.

Tonight’s performance will take on the atmosphere of quality entertainment and celebration as Peters takes the stage. Known for his high-energy storytelling and humorous perspectives on cultural quirks, from family dynamics to everyday life, Russell’s appeal spans several continents, with a loyal fan base across Asia.

Peters’ ‘Relax’ World Tour will be live at Cinnamon Life at City of Dreams, a venue which has redefined what Sri Lanka can offer on the global entertainment stage.

Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts Colombo Hotels Senior Vice President and Cinnamon Life at City of Dreams General Manager Kamal Munasinghe said: “For Sri Lanka, good entertainment is something that we’ve always wanted to offer. Bringing acts like these positions Sri Lanka and Colombo as a destination that can host these kinds of events. It’s very, very important for us to send the message across the world.”

City of Dreams Sri Lanka Vice President and Property General Manager Michael Habashi said he was excited to welcome Peters and the show will be a further boost to Colombo’s entertainment offering.

“I really appreciate you being here to put City of Dreams and Sri Lanka on the map, and I am looking forward to the people of Colombo watching the show,” he said.

The ‘Relax’ World Tour began in Naples, Florida, in early January and covered multiple cities, including California and Washington. After Colombo, he heads back to the US for shows in Texas, California, Arizona, and New York, among others.
