The Colombo stock market yesterday managed to close marginally up after an erratic day of investor sentiments amidst high turnover.
The benchmark ASPI closed with a gain of 0.2% or 47 points, whilst the active S&P SL20 declined by 0.2%. Turnover was Rs. 7.46 billion involving 295.37 million shares.
First Capital said the market witnessed a volatile day of trading, however, overall market sentiment remained positive, extending the upward streak from Wednesday.
DIAL, GREG, BUKI, CARS, and LOLC emerged as the main positive drivers of the index. Both retail and HNW investors demonstrated reasonably high levels of activity, with a spotlight on small- to medium- cap companies, such as EBCR, LVEF, and SIRA.
Turnover was 16% higher compared to the monthly average.
The Capital Goods sector led turnover contributions with a 23% share, while the Diversified Financials and Materials sectors stood next in line, with a collective contribution of 25%.
Foreign investors remained net sellers, recording a net outflow of Rs. 139.5 million.

NDB Securities said high net worth and institutional investor participation was noted in E.B. Creasy & Co., Teejay Lanka, and CT Holdings. Mixed interest was observed in LVL Energy Fund, Sierra Cables, and Raigam Wayamba Salterns, whilst retail interest was noted in Tess Agro, Waskaduwa Beach Resort, and Hela Apparel Holdings.
The Capital Goods sector was the top contributor to the market turnover (due to E.B. Creasy & Co., and Sierra Cables), whilst the sector index lost 0.16%. The share price of E.B. Creasy & Co., gained Rs. 3.90 to Rs. 67.70. The share price of Sierra Cables moved up by Rs. 1.50 to Rs. 24.10.
The Diversified Financials sector was the second highest contributor to the market turnover, whilst the sector index edged down by 0.07%. LVL Energy Fund, Raigam Wayamba Salterns, and John Keells Hotels were also included amongst the top turnover contributors. The share price of LVL Energy Fund increased by Rs. 1.10 to Rs. 11.10. The share price of Raigam Wayamba Salterns recorded a gain of Rs. 4.70 to Rs. 24.70. The share price of John Keells Hotels appreciated by Rs. 0.90 to Rs. 24.
