Colombo Uni. retains top in SL status in Webometrics Ranking 2023

University of Colombo has once again retained its position as the top university in Sri Lanka in the first edition of the 2023 Webometrics Ranking.

UOC’s global ranking is 1468th (up from 1531 previously) and 41st in South Asia.

This is the 20th Anniversary Edition (2004-2023) of the Webometrics Ranking, which evaluates the impact of a university’s web content, citations in top Google Scholar profiles, and top-cited papers during the five-year period from 2017 to 2021 in Scimago.

University of Colombo’s commitment to excellence in research and teaching is reflected in its continued success in the Webometrics ranking and this year the University outperformed its previous world ranking position from 1531 to 1468.

Harvard University topped the global ranking followed by Stanford, MIT, University of California Berkeley and University of Oxford. The top five in South Asia were IIT Mumbai; IIT Kharagpur; IIT Madras; IIT Delhi and the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore.
